How to Calculate a Bill

Rate R-1 (Residential)

  1. Start with your kilowatt-hours of monthly use.
    • For sake of example, say you use 750 kilowatt-hours.
  2. Multiply your usage by the Distribution Energy Charge (0.04 per kilowatt-hour).
    • In our example, this is 750 kilowatt-hours, multiplied by 0.04 per kilowatt-hour used, for a total of $30.
  3. Add the Customer Charge (includes energy conservation charge of .30) of $5.30.
    • In our example, this is now a subtotal of $35.30.
  4. Add the Purchased Power Charge of $0.0930 per kilowatt-hour.
    • In our example, this is 750 kilowatt-hours multiplied by $.0930 for an additional $69.75. This brings the subtotal to $105.05.
  5. Add the Purchased Power Adjustment of $0.015 per kilowatt-hour. This will not appear on the bill when zero.
    • In our example, this is 750 kilowatt-hours multiplied by $0.015 for an additional $11.25. This brings the subtotal to $116.30.
  6. Subtract the PASNY Credit on the first 500 kilowatt-hours, with $0.005 per kilowatt-hour.
    • In our example, this is 500 kilowatt-hours multiplied by $0.005 for a subtraction of $2.50. This brings the subtotal to $113.80.
  7. Lastly, subtract the Prompt Payment Discount of $5.30.
    • In our example, this is $113.80 minus $5.30, for a total (net) bill of $108.50.
