Notice

Due to the lack of natural gas capacity in the region, MGED will not open new natural gas services requested as of February 13, 2019. Customers can transfer ownership of existing services only. They can also make improvements to their existing gas service (i.e. replace a gas furnace, gas stove, or gas hot water heater), so long as the load profile for their home or business does not increase as an active service before this moratorium. Expansion of service, such as adding a generator or appliance, will be subject to limitations and will be reviewed on a case by case basis. This review process will allow us to continue to safely and reliably serve existing natural gas customers in Middleborough.

If you are interested in a new natural gas service when it becomes available, fill out the online Natural Gas Service Interest Form. MGED will review new service interests and requests as soon as the capacity issue is adequately addressed.

Required Notice

  • If you are buying a home, please sign up at least three working days before the closing so that we can create a final bill for the seller.
  • If you are renting a home, we’ll need at least one day's notice before you would like your service to start. In most instances, service can start within 24 hours.

Security Deposits

Security deposits are required. We require a deposit on new residential (non-owner) accounts of $250. If a new customer provides a letter of credit from their previous electric utility that shows acceptable payment history, we may waive the deposit at our discretion. Current customers with a deposit on file who move within Middleboro and Lakeville will have their deposits transferred to their new accounts. Read FAQs about Security Deposits (PDF).

Commercial customers who are adding a new electric service should read these instructions and contact our electric division with expected load information. As noted above, no new natural gas services will be opened as of February 13, 2019, due to pipeline capacity restraints.

Landlord Read & Leave

If you are a landlord whose tenant is moving out, MGED will change the customer of record from the tenant to the landlord, and continue to bill gas and/or electric service in the landlord’s name until a new tenant signs for service. In the absence of a named landlord, we will use the Town Assessor information to list the owner as the customer of record. If the landlord wants service shut off after a tenant leaves, then the landlord must sign the proper form requesting the shut-off.
