Request to Share Your Usage Data

As a municipal utility, MGED follows procedures developed in accordance with the Fair and Accurate Transactions Act of 2003 (FACT Act) implemented under Section 114 of the Act which provides "Red Flag" Guidelines, designed to detect, prevent, and mitigate identity theft in connection with existing customer accounts and the opening of new customer accounts. To protect your vital usage data and other identifying information we:

  • Verify the identity of the customer for whom the account is being established, requiring positive photo identification;
  • Verify the request an for account and/or usage information to be released by requiring written verification by the customer, for commercial accounts, on company letterhead; and
  • Contact the customer directly to confirm the request for the release of data.

Third parties, requesting information on behalf of our customers must be authorized in writing for specific data requested by the customer. We will not accept generic requests that do not specify the agency/party by name and the specific data/information parameters.
