Commercial Lighting Rebates

MGED offers rebates for those commercial customers who are considering investing in lighting upgrades for energy efficiency.

This program rebates projects that retrofit or replace existing lighting equipment with new equipment that results in a verifiable reduction of installed wattage. This can include replacing older standard incandescent or fluorescent overhead fixtures with LED; replacing incandescent or fluorescent EXIT signs; replacing metal halide, mercury vapor, or any high-pressure sodium lighting with better technology including LED. Rebates will be awarded based on facility size of usage and kilowatt demand savings to the following maximum incentives in a 12 month period:

  • Small Commercial accounts (to 199 kW) - $1,000 per Kilowatt saved up to $4,000
  • Medium Commercial and Industrial accounts (200 kW - 500 kW) - $1,000 per Kilowatt saved up to $8,000
  • Large Commercial and Industrial accounts (>500 kW) - $1,000 per Kilowatt saved up to $15,000

Step One:

Work with a licensed electrician to determine the lighting upgrades in areas of most use for maximum benefit. We suggest that you request project cost estimates from at least 3 contractor installers.

Step Two:

Chose your contractor and complete the CLER rebate request form (PDF) and the Lighting Inventory Worksheet (PDF) or Worksheet (XLSX) for the specific upgrades included in this request. These forms are fillable online but must then be saved as a file and email Dani Taylor together with the scanned project estimate with contractor information to initiate the request. All forms and documents are required as part of a complete rebate request. MGED will work with their energy services partner, Energy New England to confirm that the work proposed meets common upgrade standards for energy-saving parameters.

Step Three:

Wait for rebate application approval from MGED before beginning the project. This will take no more than 2 weeks. Before beginning the project, an ENE agent will visit for verification of the equipment to be replaced. After you receive approval for the project and the site review, you should proceed with the installation, pay for the total project, and email the paid invoice for the total project to [email protected]. MGED reserves the right to review the completed installation at any time, with adequate notice. You'll receive a check from MGED within 4 to 8 weeks.

Restrictions:

This offering is limited to customers in good standing whose proposed upgrades will be installed in existing facilities which are served by MGED. All rebate amounts will be limited to no more than 50% of actual installation costs. This program will run from January 1 to December 31 or until budgeted program funds have been expended.

Review the CLER Rebate information materials including application and Terms and Conditions completely before any action.
