Certificate of Excellence in Reliability - 2022

Like most electric and natural gas utilities, we track outage levels and the time it takes to restore service. Because we are community-powered, and most staff live and work in the communities we serve, we can often streamline the restoration process, and emphasize staff and capital investments in hardening our systems to support better service at a reasonable price. This award is given to the most reliable electric utilities, and based on our outage data, we are in the top 25% of utilities for System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) for 2022.


Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3), Platinum Member - 2022-2025

An RP3 designation is a sign of a utility's dedication to operating an efficient, safe, and reliable distribution system. Being recognized by the RP3 program demonstrates to community leaders, governing board members, suppliers, and service providers a utility’s commitment to its employees, customers, and community. Currently 275 of the nation's more than 2,000 public power utilities hold a RP3 designation. 

Smart Energy Provider (SEP), Designee - 2023-2025

Also designated for 2021-2023

There are over 2,000 Public Power utilities in the United States, and only 101 of these utilities received the Smart Energy Provider (SEP) award. This designation represents MGED's dedication to offering programs that help our customers save money, reduce our collective environmental impact, and support our community’s responsible energy use.


System Operational Achievement Recognition (SOAR), Bronze Designation - 2023-2026

Out of approximately 750 American Public Gas Association members, MGED was selected for System Operational Achievement Recognition level Bronze by its peers on the APGA Operations and Safety Committee. The selection was based on demonstrated excellence in the four areas of system integrity, system improvement, employee safety, and workforce development.
