Middleborough Gas & Electric Department (MGED) to Receive Substantial Grant for Public EV Fast Charge Installations

The Baker-Polito Administration announced $13.1 million in grants to add DC Fast Charge infrastructure across the Commonwealth, including nearly $300,000 for MGED.  Funding is awarded through the Massachusetts Electric Vehicle Incentive Program (MassEVIP) and administered by the Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP).

“I would like to congratulate the Middleborough Gas & Electric Department on their recent grant award providing a total of $289,647 for six electric vehicle DC Fast Charge Stations at three locations in Middleborough,” said Senator Marc R. Pacheco (D-Taunton).  “These charging stations will provide the baseline infrastructure needed to help expand electric vehicles in the Commonwealth as we build out a network of charging stations statewide.”

“DC Fast Chargers alleviate range anxiety since EV drivers can charge a battery in just 30-45 minutes (to 80% capacity),” said MGED GM Jackie Crowley. “The added resources will benefit residents, local businesses and Route 495 travelers in need of a quick charge.”

The funds are planned for six installations at three locations in town – the Town Hall parking lot, Jackson Street parking lot, and a new location on Pearl Street.  MGED’s current charging network features thirteen dual-port level 2 chargers throughout town.

Middleborough Town Manager Robert Nunes says, “This exciting award helps Middleborough to expand resources to support the rapid growth of electric vehicles in town. Important steps like these can help residents feel confident in their move towards EVs.”
