Middleborough Gas & Electric Department (MGED) Recognized as A Reliable Public Power Provider

RP3 Designation

On March 28th, MGED was recognized as a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designee by the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service.

Fifty-four of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities earned the RP3 designation from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for providing reliable and safe electric service. The RP3 designation, which lasts for three years, recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.

“In the spirit of public service, we strive to prioritize long-term needs of customers for reliable, reasonably priced power,” observed MGED GM Jackie Crowley, “and to increase the commitment to safer operations, and education and career development opportunities for staff.”

“I think over the last year or so, we’ve seen the vital importance of running a reliable and safe utility,” says Aaron Haderle, Chair of APPA’s RP3 Review Panel and Manager of Transmission and Distribution Operations at Kissimmee Utility Authority, Florida. “The utilities receiving the RP3 designation have proven that they are committed to running a top-notch public power utility by implementing industry best practices.”

The RP3 designation follows MGED’s award as a Smart Energy Provider (SEP) by the American Public Power Association in late 2021. Both awards are on display in the lobby of MGED’s Administrative Building. MGED is pleased to receive these national recognitions for the service and dedication we provide to the communities of Middleborough and Lakeville every day.
