Now that many people are upgrading to super-efficient ENERGY STAR appliances, utilities are being asked to capture and keep records of the before and after effects of the rebates. How much are customers actually saving? We can learn that by comparing the old versus the new appliance models. This information is required before rebating the two largest users in a home – the refrigerator and the clothes washer. In areas served by investor-owned utilities like Eversource and National Grid, going through MassSave for rebates, customers are required to have a home visit and full energy audit to record this model information before purchasing the appliance. We believe our customers may be able to find the appliance label themselves and not wait for a scheduled audit.
